The basic definition of time zone is "Geometrical division of time across the world in 24 longitudinal divisions". The world is divided into 24 time zones, and each zone differs by an hour from the time zone next to it.
If you want to indicate a certain time zone, the simplest way to do it is to put the time zone abbreviation in parentheses after the time: 4:00 p.m.(EST). The time zones are usually mentioned by their abbreviations. Commonly, there prevails the basic ignorance of time zone abbreviations.
